However, we also know that the other returnees were housed in other facilities. The presence of this facility, where the government is keeping other members of the 4400 is not a shocking revelation to the audience. While Mildred and Hayden are the vehicle for getting to YPSI Medical, and behind the chartreuse door, it is the facility behind the hospital that is more illuminating. It is no wonder he would do anything to get Mildred back. The brief flashbacks we get of him in the 1930s with his mother also give us a bit more insight into what his story is, especially his distrust. Hayden is the standout on “If You Love Something” with his determination for getting Mildred back driving the story. It’s somewhat fantastical, but given that these people are supposed to be extraordinary, it’s believable. Hayden’s visions, LaDonna’s illusions, and Shanice’s ability to see memories are all working in concert to give the returnees what they need.
